Austin is well-known for its beautiful surrounding lakes. Many years ago, the Colorado River was dammed up in several places to create six beautiful lakes that surround Austin. This series of lakes is known as the Highland Lakes. The six lakes : Lake Austin, Lake Travis, Lake Marble Falls, Lake LBJ, Inks Lake, and Lake Buchanan.

In addition, Lady Bird Lake runs through the heart of downtown Austin, and is surrounded by a hike and bike trail where you can run, bike, walk your dog, or just feed the ducks. You can also go kayaking, canoeing or sculling on Lady Bird Lake.

Lake Austin runs through the very affluent west part of Austin. People who live on Lake Austin are only a twenty minute drive from downtown Austin.
